If youre preparing home cooked meals for your cat or dog, you will need to keep this supplement handy. Allowing your pets to chew on bones will not provide them with enough calcium.
Calcium is mainly required to support healthy bones; but did you know many enzymes depend on calcium in order to work properly? Including the heart, nerve tissue and even the ability to clot blood properly.
General guideline is supplementing with 600 mg. of calcium per 10 lb. of your pets body weight daily.

How to Make Powdered Eggshells:
1. Wash empty eggshells in warm water until all of the egg white is removed, but do not remove the membrane because it contains important nutrients for the joints which helps arthritis.
2. Lay broken pieces out on paper towels and allow them to air dry thoroughly.
3. Break the eggshells up into small pieces, and grind them to into a fine powder in a food processor, blender, coffee grinder, or a nut mill.
4. Store powdered eggshells in a covered glass jar or container. Keep it in a dry place, like the kitchen cupboard.
Use one finely ground organic eggshell per 200 grams of meat when preparing your pets meals.
Fine ground whole bones (not bone shavings): Do not used bones if you will be cooking meals for your pets. However if you choose to feed raw food here is the nutritional content of ground raw chicken bones.
100 grams of raw bones contain: 25,000 mg. of calcium, 12,000 mg. phosphorus, 370 mg. magnesium, 700 mg. potassium, 9 mg. zinc and 0.5 mg. copper. Bones also a natural source of 90% collagen, an important amino acid for maintaining healthy skin and tendons.
Calcium Carbonate: Is one of least expensive if your going to purchase your supplements. Unfortunately it is also known to cause bloating and constipation in some pets and is not well absorbed by the body.
Bone Meal: Made from crushed animal bones, from cows or pigs. While it is a good source of calcium unfortunately it is also high in phosphorus.
