Overall this recipe is lower in phosphorous than the usual recipes (which tends to build up in this condition).

If your dog is eating well but still loses weight, then increase the meat and fat in this recipe.

Canine Kidney Diet

  1. 1/2 cup raw regular fat ground beef
  2. 2 3/4 cup cooked white rice, enriched
  3. 2 eggs, large organic raw
  4. 1/4 cup carrots, cooked
  5. 2 tablespoons fish oil or salmon oil
  6. 2 teaspoons Animal Essential Calcium (or slightly rounded teaspoon of eggshell powder)
  7. 1/8 teaspoon iodized salt
  8. 1/2 - 1 clove garlic, minced
  9. 20 mg. Vitamin B complex
  10. 1000 mg. Vitamin C (or 1/4 teaspoon sodium ascorbate)
Raw meal version
  1. Mix all ingredients together, keeping the beef and eggs raw.
  2. Portion each meal into zip lock bags and gently warm in a sink filled with warm water just before serving.
Cooked meal version
  1. If your dog will not eat this recipe raw; mix all ingredients together except the vitamins. Bake about 20 minutes at 350°F.
  2. Once it’s cooled enough, chunk into small pieces, mix in balance of the vitamin.
  3. Portion each meal into zip lock bags and gently warm in a sink filled with warm water just before serving.
  1. Occasionally, substitute 1 to 3 teaspoons of liver for part of the meat.
  2. Mix in water to each dish if you believe your dog is not drinking enough.
